‘Watch Me Whip & Brunch’ cook-off comes down to skills at Atlanta Boys and Girls Club

It was a serious yet fun-filled competition between Team Breakfast vs. Team Lunch at the Thomasville Boys & Girls Club recreation center late in February. However, the Network of STARRS Foundation is all about serious yet fun-filled events that help the kids.

The foundation stages the events at various Atlanta and surrounding area Boys & Girls Clubs, exposing them to the outside world; bringing motivators and mentors in to interact with that purpose, often teaching skills they would never otherwise obtain. This particular day was about exposing the youth to entrepreneurship and new skills.

Everyone love food, loves to eat, so what better lesson this time than to teach them how to prepare breakfast and lunch from the ground up. Essential to this process is measuring, chopping, cutting, frying, stirring, grinding, blending, and serving. All under the watchful eyes of certified Chef Tiffany Jones, who owns Atlanta-based No Excuses Fitness & Cuisine. It was a menu filled with pancakes, burgers, sausage, smoothies, slushies, lemonade, pasta, all sponsored by Bubba Burgers and No Excuses Fitness & Cuisine.

The kids got to enjoy the fruits of their labors, so to speak, by interacting with the food and also their special guests Atlanta city council president Ceasar Mitchell, hip-hop duo Mannish, and Ms. Mulatto. Ms. Mulatto often attends these types of events because she wants to give back and loves interacting with the kids, believing she can make a difference. The former winner of Jermaine Dupri’s Rap Game is definitely a mentor that the kids look forward to being with.

In between the culinary event, the guests in attendance were treated to various kids testimonies as to why they should be involved with obtaining cooking skills, the Boys & Girls Club, and learned how to spin the turntables from DJS MACK0908.

Everyone got their eat on from both teams, but who actually won the watch me whip brunch cook-off? No spoiler alert here.  To learn more on the Network of Starrs Foundation Inc or would like to donate visit www.networkofstarrs.org or follow on Twitter @NETWORKOFSTARRS
